Programme overview
Power BI is a business analytics service developed by Microsoft. It provides interactive visualizations and business intelligence capabilities with an interface simple enough for end users to create their own reports and dashboards. Power BI allows users to connect to a wide variety of data sources, both on-premises and in the cloud, and then transform and model the data for analysis, reporting and decision-making.
Learning outcomes:
- Data Connectivity: Power BI can connect to a wide range of data sources, including Excel spreadsheets,
databases, cloud-based and on-premises data sources, and many others. - Data Transformation and Modelling: Users can shape and transform data using Power BI’s Power Query Editor. This allows for cleaning and formatting data to make it suitable for analysis. The data modelling capabilities enable the creation of relationships between different data tables.
- Data Visualization: Power BI offers a variety of visualization options, including charts, graphs, maps, and
tables. Users can create interactive and engaging reports and dashboards to represent data in a meaningful
way. - Dashboard and Report Creation: Power BI allows users to create interactive dashboards and reports by
dragging and dropping elements onto a canvas. These dashboards can then be shared with others. - Natural Language Queries: Users can ask questions about their data using natural language queries, and
Power BI will generate visualizations based on the data. - Power BI Service: The Power BI service enables users to share and collaborate on reports and dashboards in
the cloud. It also provides features for scheduling data refreshes, managing security, and more
