IFS Skillnet, along with Financial Services Ireland (FSI), concluded the EGFSN report (on skills for international financial services) event at Ibec on the 23rd of July 2024.
The event provided crucial insights into the skills necessary for Ireland to maintain its position as a global financial services hub.
We heard from industry experts:
– Dr. Ronnie O’Toole from Indecon International Consultants on their research methodology and key findings.
– Don O’Connor from the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment, Trade, and Employment on the report’s recommendations.
A lively panel discussion followed, with insights on how we can move forward with the report’s recommendations and actions. Thanks to Martina Kelly (IOB) for moderating, Kevin Gallen (IOB), Donna Noonan (IFS Skillnet), Aisling Mc Niffe (FSI) and Ronnie for their contributions.
The insights shared at the event underscore the importance of collaborative efforts in building a robust talent pipeline.
A major highlight was the emphasis on apprenticeship programmes and the importance of building a strong talent hub for the future. The report strongly suggests that there will be more jobs in the sector, and we need to work diligently to skill up our people and attract new talent. Promoting a career in finance and international financial services is essential, as many outside the industry are unaware of the varied and interesting opportunities it offers.
